Retail Fulfilment

Flexible Fulfillment That Keeps You Competitive

Retail fulfillment is the process of getting a brand’s product into retailers — storing inventory, building compliant bulk orders, and shipping them into distribution centers or stores exactly the way each retailer’s routing guide demands.

Jay Group handles retail fulfillment for brands selling into national and regional retail accounts, from facilities we own and operate ourselves, so the EDI, the carton labels, and the ship windows are managed by our team rather than brokered out.

Where ecommerce is about reaching one customer at a time, retail is about clearing a retailer’s compliance bar on every shipment — and one missed rule turns into a chargeback.

Why Retail Fulfillment Matters

Selling into a major retailer is a privilege you can lose. Big-box, grocery, club, and drug retailers each publish a routing guide that dictates how product must be labeled, palletized, documented, and delivered — down to the carton label format and the delivery appointment window. Miss the ship date, send a bad ASN, mislabel a pallet, or pack a carton the wrong way, and the retailer deducts a chargeback from your invoice, no negotiation. Those deductions add up fast, and enough of them put your vendor scorecard — and your shelf space — at risk. Good retail fulfillment is what keeps you compliant, keeps the chargebacks off your invoice, and keeps buyers reordering. The wrong partner does the opposite while charging you for the privilege.

What's Included in Retail Fulfillment

Retail fulfillment at Jay Group covers everything between your inventory and the retailer’s dock:

  • SPS Commerce EDI onboarding and document exchange (850, 856/ASN, 810, and more)
  • Routing-guide compliance, including UCC-128/GS1-128 carton and pallet labeling
  • Retail-ready and shelf-ready packaging built to IGD standards
  • Automated cartoning, kitting, and collation for retail case packs and displays
  • Floor-ready pallet building, palletization, and delivery-appointment scheduling
  • Club-store and display-pack assembly
  • Returns processing and reverse logistics for retail
  • Lot, batch, and expiration tracking for regulated or dated products

Services can be used on their own or combined, tuned to your retailers and SKUs rather than forced into a one-size template.

Retail Fulfillment at Jay Group

Jay Group runs retail fulfillment as a compliance operation, not just a warehouse. Your inventory sits in one accurate pool, and when a retail purchase order lands, we translate it, build it to the retailer's spec, label it, and ship it into their DC on time. Seven-day-a-week fulfillment keeps orders moving against tight delivery windows, and a footprint across the East, West, and central U.S. — Lancaster and Mountville, Pennsylvania; Reno, Nevada; and Houston, Texas — puts more than 90% of the country within two-day ground shipping of a retailer's distribution centers. We own and operate all of it. Nothing about your retail program depends on a brokered network we don't control.

EDI and routing-guide compliance, handled for you

Retail runs on EDI, and Jay Group speaks it. Through our SPS Commerce integration we receive purchase orders (EDI 850), return advance ship notices (856/ASN), and send invoices (810) in the exact format each trading partner requires. We build to the routing guide — UCC-128/GS1-128 carton and pallet labels, correct case packs, retailer-specific palletization, and booked delivery appointments — so shipments arrive clean. The point of all of it is simple: no compliance chargebacks, and a vendor scorecard buyers like to see.

Retail-ready packaging built to IGD standards

Retailers increasingly want product that moves from truck to shelf without being unpacked and re-merchandised. Our contract packaging division builds retail-ready (shelf-ready) packaging — trays, sleeves, bins, and display units — to the standards set by the Institute of Grocery Distribution, so cartons open clean, identify fast, shop well, and restock in seconds on the retail floor. That means less labor for the store, better shelf presence for your brand, and packaging that passes the retailer’s spec the first time.

The Technology Behind Retail Fulfillment

Retail fulfillment lives or dies on accuracy, and Jay Group runs it on software built for it. Underneath sits Manhattan Associates WMS — a longtime Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Warehouse Management Systems — connected to our proprietary order management system and a real-time client portal you actually log into, with 50-plus integrations and an in-house development team for the connections that don’t come off a shelf. On the packaging line, a fully automated cartoner produces up to 2,100 cartons an hour, and a qualified vision system inspects the inside of every package at a 99% accuracy rating — so what ships to the retailer matches the purchase order and the routing guide, carton after carton. Across the operation we run at 99.9% order accur

Facilities we own & operate across the East, West & Central U.S.

We are not an asset-light platform brokering your inventory to a network we don’t control. We own and run four facilities — Lancaster and Mountville, Pennsylvania in the East; Reno, Nevada in the West; and Houston, Texas in the Central/Gulf region — more than 750,000 square feet reaching over 90% of the U.S. within two days. For a wholesale program that means product positioned close to your retail buyers and their distribution centers, on floors we actually staff.

Scale Your 3PL Fulfillment without Compromise

Why Jay Group for Retail Fulfillment

Plenty of 3PLs will pick and pack a box. Far fewer can pass a big retailer’s routing guide on every shipment while building the retail-ready packaging that goes on the shelf — and do both under one roof. Jay Group does, because we own and operate our facilities and run our own EDI, packaging lines, and compliance. There’s no handoff between a fulfillment vendor and a separate packaging vendor pointing fingers over a chargeback.

And because we’re family-owned and woman-led since 1965, we answer to clients, not outside investors. When your vendor scorecard and someone’s quarterly return are in tension, there’s no tension here — there’s no outside return to protect. Before you sign with any retail fulfillment partner, ask two questions: do you own the building and run the EDI yourselves, or broker it, and who do you ultimately answer to. Our answers have been the same for six decades.
