Kitting & Assembly

Flexible Fulfillment That Keeps You Competitive

Contract packaging is the outsourced assembly, packing, and finishing of a product for retail or direct sale — everything that happens between a bulk run of components and a finished, shelf-ready unit. Jay Group runs contract packaging, or co-packing, out of the same FDA-registered facilities we own and operate for fulfillment, with more than 20 co-packing services, automated cartoning, and a dedicated quality department that inspects the work rather than trusting it.

Why Contract Packaging Matters

A product rarely leaves the manufacturing line ready to sell. It has to be cartoned, labeled, bundled into multi-packs, built into a display, or reconfigured for a specific retailer — and every one of those steps is a place where a mislabeled unit or a short display becomes a rejected shipment or a chargeback. Doing that work in-house means buying equipment, staffing a packaging line, and absorbing the swings between a quiet month and a promotional surge. Handing it to a co-packer that also holds your inventory removes a handoff: the same operation that packs your product ships it, so nothing moves between buildings and no one loses track of a lot.

What's Included in Our Cross-Docking

  • Clamshell and blister packaging, shrinkwrapping, overwrapping, and banding
  • Multi-packs, club packs, on-packs, and co-branded packaging
  • POP/POS display design, assembly, and reconfiguration, dump bins, and transport trays
  • Kitting, collation, sampling, gift wrapping, and mailing
  • Labeling and over-labeling, packaging and repackaging, and SKU transformations
  • Quality inspection and reworking, plus reverse logistics, reconditioning, and refurbishing

Services can be used on their own or combined, and the work is tuned to your SKUs and retailers rather than forced into a single template.

Kitting and Assembly at Jay Group

This is where Jay Group is genuinely different, and it is worth being specific rather than generic.

Automated cartoning up to 2,100 cartons an hour, vision-inspected at 99%

For retail-ready work, Jay Group runs a fully automated cartoner producing up to 2,100 cartons per hour, with a qualified vision system that inspects each and every package and holds a 99% accuracy rate. Automation at that speed is what makes a large promotional or retail run affordable, and the vision check is what keeps quantity and quality consistent across the whole run instead of drifting as volume climbs.

A dedicated quality and compliance department, not a spot check

Jay Group maintains an internal quality and compliance department that runs consistent quality-control inspection and reworking, with visual and manual inspections at 100% and 200%. That means a second — and where warranted, a doubled — pass on the work, so a labeling or assembly error is caught in our building rather than on a retailer's dock. The same department handles reverse logistics, plus reconditioning, refurbishing, and parts harvesting when product comes back.

More than 20 co-packing services under one roof

Because the packaging line and the warehouse are the same operation, you can combine services without shipping product between vendors — carton insertion, banding, shrinkwrapping and overwrapping, clamshell and blister packaging, multi-packs, club packs, on-packs, SKU transformations, and full display building all run against the inventory we already hold.

The Technology Behind Contract Packaging

Because co-packing and fulfillment share one operation, the packaging line draws on the same systems that run the warehouse: Manhattan Associates WMS — a longtime Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Warehouse Management Systems — a proprietary Order Management System, and a real-time Client Access Portal you log into for inventory, orders, and status. Lot, batch, serial, and expiration tracking with FIFO/LIFO/FEFO rotation follows product through packaging, so a co-packed unit carries the same traceability as everything else in the building, and 50-plus native integrations connect the platforms your team already uses.

Facilities we own & operate across the East, West & Central U.S.

We are not an asset-light platform brokering your inventory to a network we don’t control. We own and run four facilities — Lancaster and Mountville, Pennsylvania in the East; Reno, Nevada in the West; and Houston, Texas in the Central/Gulf region — more than 750,000 square feet reaching over 90% of the U.S. within two days. For a wholesale program that means product positioned close to your retail buyers and their distribution centers, on floors we actually staff.

Why Jay Group for Contract Packaging

Every Jay Group facility is FDA-registered as an outsourcing facility, cGMP compliant, and ISO 27001 certified, so regulated product can be packaged under the same controls it’s stored under. Sustainable packaging is part of how we approach the work, and a specialty packaging division handles custom and branded presentation for products that need more than a standard carton. Because we are family-owned and woman-led since 1965, we answer to clients, not outside investors — when the quality of a run and a shortcut would conflict, there is no conflict here.

Industries We Serve with Contract Packaging

Jay Group co-packs for supplement and nutraceutical brands, health and beauty, personal care, food and beverage, pet, kids and baby, medical devices, and other regulated and lifestyle categories — the same brands that rely on our FDA-registered, lot-controlled operation for fulfillment.

Contract Packaging FAQ

What is contract packaging?

Contract packaging, or co-packing, is the outsourced assembly, packing, labeling, and finishing of a product so it’s ready for retail or direct sale — from cartoning and shrinkwrapping to building retail displays — handled by a specialist rather than in-house.

What contract packaging services does Jay Group offer?

More than 20, including retail and automated cartoning, clamshell and blister packaging, shrinkwrapping and overwrapping, multi-packs and club packs, POP/POS display building, kitting, collation, labeling and over-labeling, SKU transformations, and repackaging.

How does Jay Group control packaging quality?

A dedicated quality and compliance department runs visual and manual inspections at 100% and 200% and reworks what doesn’t pass, and the automated cartoner’s vision system inspects every package at a 99% accuracy rate.

What is retail-ready packaging?

Retail-ready (or shelf-ready) packaging lets a product go from delivery to the shelf without removing individual units from the container. Jay Group builds it to The Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) standards — easy to identify, open, replenish, shop, and recycle.
